From our resident Twitter Expert, Michael Ayalon, CEO of PetWebDesigner.com
1. Do not use twitter autoresponders! They are not personalized and make you look spammy. Those are the first people I “unfollow”.
2. Please don’t beg for a retweet. If it’s good content, I will RT it on my own. Also, when you do RT, be sure to give credit to the original tweeter!
3. Use hashtags in moderation. The people that abuse hashtags are usually spammers.
4. Keep your avatar in good taste. Keep your clothes on, make sure it’s really you in the picture, and be sure it’s something grandma can look at.
5. Think twice before you tweet. Once you tweet, it becomes public information that others can find. You can’t get it back after it’s already gone out!
Here’s to good Tweetiquette. Enjoy your journey!

Media Training Tips
Media Tips from Sheryl, The Dog Expert of Leashes and Lovers who’s been on both sides of the camera as the guest and the news reporter!
1. Create a 15 second pitch of what you do that addresses a problem and how you’re the solution.
2. Provide in advance a list of 5 to 10 questions your interviewer can ask you (you’d be amazed how often those are the only ones they do ask!)
3. Provide in advance a one paragraph bio on you and your business – the media often uses this as their introduction of you.
4. When answering a question, phrase the answer as if your audience did not hear the question as often the question is not included in the story.
5. Where solid, pastel or bright colors or an outfit representative of your business. Avoid plaids, florals, stripes and small checked prints.
Make your next interview a most Paw-sitive one!

Networking Tips
Here are a few easy networking tips to follow to make your networking experience the best it can be!
- Make sure you have plenty of up-to-date business cards with you. I always bring 50 to 100 with me – I don’t ever want to say, “oh, sorry I just ran out.” Make sure you have plenty so if you decide to go to a last minute meeting you are prepared!
- Don’t just shove your business card in someone else’s face. Be curious and inquisitive about what they do, and ask them for a card – then more often then not, they will ask for your card.
- Be on time! A lot of networking meetings do a round-robin of intros, and if you are late you may miss your opportunity to give your “elevator pitch” and miss out on hearing what other people do, and may miss a very important connection.
- If there is someone there that is new to the industry or just breaking into the industry, encourage them and offer them help. I am sure you remember someone who was helpful to you in the past. Don’t just try to sell them what you do!
- Don’t be shy! If there are people there you already know, of course say hello, but be sure to mingle with new people, make connections and make the most out of your networking night.
- Follow up, but don’t harass! If you’ve made a connection, be sure to follow up the next day or two – don’t wait 3 weeks – that person may not remember you by then. BUT, don’t harass with tons of emails and phone calls trying to “sell” your product or service, this can be a HUGE turn off to most. And if they are not getting back to you, well maybe there is a reason.
- If someone is giving a presentation, be polite and don’t talk to others during the presentation! Think how much work and time they put into it, and if it was you up there you would want their full attention!
- Don’t miss out on an opportunity just because you might have to drive ½ an hour or more. Get out there and network, you would be surprised how many connections you make and possible new clients you may get.
- Now get out there and network!
